So, as it seems is traditional with Weber they have gone and bettered the best and come up with the Weber Summit Grill Centre (with Social Area) as part of their 2012 range. This beast is essentially halfway between top-of-the-range barbecue and outdoor kitchen. Accomodating pretty much everything you might need in an outdoor kitchen, except disappointingly a sink, the Summit Grill Centre is modelled on the gorgeously styled Summit S-670 gas bbq with more work surfaces and gizmos you can shake a kebab skewer at.This L-shaped colossal catering creation has Weber no longer targeting the bbq market but as an affordable alternative to custom-built outdoor kitchens which often require contractors, building permits, electricians, plumbers and other headaches. As a bonus, Weber claim that it can be built single-handedly in a day!
Available in both stainless steel (pictured) and classic black with stainless steel trim, the Summit Grill Centre will feature a duel-ring side burner (3,500BTU inner ring and 23,500BTU outer burner) for efficient heating of various cookware and foods. Co-ordinating cabinets contain adjustable stainless steel shelving, a paper towel holder, gas cylinder storage, an insulated ice bucket, condiment speed rails and a concealed rubbish bin. All of the features of the Summit S-670 remain the same for the main cooking unit including the cleverly concealed rotisserie. The legs are adjustable for uneven ground and the whole unit can be dismantled and moved if necessary.
A retail price is yet to be disclosed for all of this but you can bet it will be in the region of £5000 with the Summit S-670 itself currently retailing at £3000 - is this really a viable product for Weber considering most of us are still trying to breathe life into our deflated bank accounts after the bitter tasting recession? Time will tell, but of course as always, online retailers will lead the battle for the cheapest price so I don't think it is unreasonable to predict you will be able to pick one of these up for the better side of four grand next season.
